New Products

National 77-1760 disperses easily in hot or cold water, milk, juice and coffee without lumping and yields a short texture.  The increased viscosity improves swallowing characteristics and can be used to prevent aspiration of liquids by dysphagia patients.

NOVATION 4086 is an instant, clean label solution to freeze/thaw stability and textural improvements in baby foods.  The functional native rice starch provides superior sheen and clarity.

Infant and Clinical Nutrition

Infants, toddlers and medical patients have different nutrition needs and tolerance than the general population. That is why a company with a long history of serving these demanding market segments can provide ingredients that contribute to the well being of these individuals.

Products & Services

National Starch Food Innovation produces specialty starches and provides formulation assistance for manufacturers of infant and toddler foods and specialized medical nutrition foods, such as those for dysphagia patients. We understand that in these unique nutrition fields, requirements are different and more stringent than in traditional food processing. For example, ingredients that go into infant formula must meet higher microbiology/contaminant standards than ingredients for any other food application.

Applications

  • Native starches specifically developed for infant formula, follow-on formula or toddler's milk in powder form
  • Emulsifying starches for foods for special medical purposes for infants, such as formulas for infants with allergies
  • Liquid dietetic products, such as complete tube or sip feeds or liquid infant formula
  • Jarred baby foods
  • Specialty starches for foods for dysphagia patients that make liquids easy to swallow and help enhance quality of life

Challenges
  • Counteracting milk regurgitation which reduces nutrient intake in infants
  • Delivering the appropriate viscosity in liquid foods for dysphagia patients who cannot swallow properly
